Situation

You want to know what your competitors are doing before your CEO forwards you a screenshot. A structured weekly process beats reactive googling.

What you need

  • The domains of 2–5 competitors to monitor
  • A place to receive the output (PM Inbox)
  • 10 minutes for initial setup
  • Steps

    1. Define your competitive watchlist

In AI Chat: `` I want to monitor these competitors weekly: [Competitor A] (domain.com), [Competitor B] (domain.com), [Competitor C] (domain.com).

For each, I want to track:

  • Changelog / new features shipped
  • Pricing page changes
  • New job posts (especially engineering and product roles)
  • G2 and Capterra review themes
  • Social mentions that signal strategic moves
  • Create a weekly monitoring workflow that runs every Monday and delivers a structured brief to my PM Inbox. `

    2. Set move categorisation

Ask Specky to categorise moves by type:

  • 🟢 Green — they shipped something in a space we've intentionally left empty (validate our decision)
  • 🟡 Yellow — they're moving toward our differentiated area (watch closely)
  • 🔴 Red — they shipped something that directly overlaps our core proposition (respond brief needed)
  • 3. Connect to your strategy

In the workflow prompt, add: ` Cross-reference all red and yellow moves against our current OKRs and open opportunities. Flag any conflicts with our strategy. `

This grounds the monitoring in your actual roadmap — not just competitor activity in the abstract.

    4. Set up the Slack digest (optional)

Ask Specky to also post a 3-sentence summary to a Slack channel: ` Also post a brief (max 3 bullet points) to the #product-strategy Slack channel every Monday morning summarising the most important move. ``

    Output

  • Weekly categorised competitive brief in PM Inbox
  • Moves colour-coded by strategic relevance
  • Cross-referenced against your OKRs and opportunities
  • Optional Slack digest for the team
  • Variations

Pre-launch? Increase monitoring frequency to daily for the 2 weeks before you launch a major feature.

M&A activity? Add to the monitoring prompt: *"Also watch for acquisition announcements, funding rounds, and partnership news for each competitor."*
