Frequently Asked Questions
How is Specky different from Notion?
Notion is a flexible, general-purpose document editor. Specky is purpose-built for product management. The key differences:
Connected to your tools — Specky pulls signals from Slack, Jira, GitHub, and Gong automatically. Notion requires manual copy-paste.
Evidence-grounded AI — When Specky generates a PRD section, it cites the specific Slack threads, Jira tickets, and call transcripts that support it. Notion's AI generates text without any connection to your real product data.
Product-specific structure — Specky has dedicated views for Opportunity Trees, Decision Logs, Stakeholder Maps, and Roadmaps. Notion requires you to build and maintain these structures yourself.
Execution bridge — Specky pushes requirements directly to Jira or Linear as tickets. Notion has no equivalent. If you already use Notion for general team documentation, Specky complements it — use Specky for product thinking and discovery, Notion for everything else.
How is Specky different from Jira?
Jira is an engineering execution tool — it tracks what engineers are building and the status of that work. Specky is a product thinking tool — it's where you figure out *what* to build and *why*.
The workflow is: Specky → Jira, not either/or.
In Specky: discover insights, prioritize opportunities, write PRDs, log decisions
In Jira: track the engineering work that executes on those decisions
The Execution Bridge keeps them in sync — push requirements from Specky to Jira in one click, and changes to requirements propagate to tickets automaticallyHow is Specky different from ChatGPT?
ChatGPT is a general-purpose AI assistant with no knowledge of your product. Specky's AI is grounded in your actual product data — your Slack conversations, Jira tickets, customer interviews, and past decisions.
When you ask Specky "What are the top pain points in our checkout flow?", it searches your real data and cites specific sources. ChatGPT would generate a plausible-sounding answer with no connection to your actual customers.
Specky also has product-specific structure (PRD templates, Opportunity Trees, Decision Logs) that ChatGPT doesn't provide.
Is my data secure?
Yes. Security is a core part of how Specky is built:
Encryption at rest — All data is encrypted using AES-256
Encryption in transit — All connections use TLS 1.3
SOC 2 Type II — We are SOC 2 Type II compliant; our audit report is available on request
No AI training — Your data is never used to train AI models, by Specky or any third-party AI provider
Data residency — Data is stored in the US by default; EU residency is available on Enterprise plans
Access controls — Role-based access control (Admin, Member, Viewer) with workspace-level permissions
Integration permissions — You control exactly which Slack channels, Jira projects, and GitHub repos Specky can accessSee our [Privacy Policy](/privacy) and [Terms of Service](/terms) for full details.
What AI model does Specky use?
Specky uses Google Gemini as its primary AI model, with model selection optimized per task:
Gemini 2.0 Flash — Used for fast tasks like signal classification, search, and short generations
Gemini 2.5 Pro — Used for complex tasks like full PRD generation, research synthesis, and strategy documentsYou can configure your preference in Settings → AI — choose between "Faster" (Flash) and "Higher quality" (Pro). The default is automatic selection based on the task.
Specky does not use your data to fine-tune or train any AI models.
How do integrations work?
Integrations use OAuth 2.0 to securely connect to your tools. Here's the full flow:
Authorization — You click "Connect" and authorize Specky in the tool's OAuth flow. Specky never sees your password.
Initial sync — Specky indexes your historical data (up to 90 days back, configurable).
Ongoing sync — New data syncs every 5 minutes via webhooks or polling, depending on the integration.
Signal extraction — Specky's AI classifies each piece of data as a signal (bug report, feature request, complaint, praise, etc.) and links it to the relevant product area.
Search and analysis — Signals are indexed for semantic search and available to all AI features. You control which data is synced — specific Slack channels, Jira projects, GitHub repos, etc. You can disconnect an integration at any time, which removes all synced data from Specky.
See [Integrations Overview](/docs/integrations-overview) for setup instructions.
How much does Specky cost?
See our [Pricing page](/pricing) for current plans and pricing. We offer a free trial with no credit card required.
Can I use Specky with my existing tools, or do I have to switch?
Specky is designed to work alongside your existing tools, not replace them. The typical setup:
Keep using Slack for team communication — Specky reads it for signals
Keep using Jira or Linear for engineering execution — Specky pushes requirements to them
Keep using Notion or Confluence for general documentation — Specky focuses on product-specific documents
Use Specky for discovery, prioritization, PRDs, decisions, and strategyWhat happens to my data if I cancel?
If you cancel your Specky subscription, you have 30 days to export your data. After 30 days, your data is permanently deleted from our servers. We provide a full data export in JSON and Markdown formats.
