Strategy Canvas

What it does

The Strategy Canvas provides a set of structured strategic frameworks — North Star Metric, Jobs to Be Done, Value Proposition Canvas, and OKRs — with AI assistance to help you fill them in based on your product signals and goals.

Strategy documents are often written once and forgotten. The Strategy Canvas keeps your strategy alive by linking it to your Product Graph: when signals change, the canvas surfaces which strategic assumptions might need revisiting.

When to use it

  • During annual or quarterly planning — define or refine your strategic direction
  • When pivoting or changing focus — document the new direction and the reasoning behind it
  • To align the team — give everyone a shared understanding of where you're going and why
  • Before writing OKRs — use the North Star framework to ensure OKRs ladder up to the right metric
  • For investor or board presentations — export a clean, structured strategy document
  • How to use it

  • Open Strategy Canvas from the sidebar
  • Click New Canvas and choose a framework:
  • - North Star — define your North Star metric, leading indicators, and the work that moves them - Jobs to Be Done — map the jobs your customers hire your product to do - Value Proposition Canvas — map customer pains, gains, and how your product addresses them - OKRs — define objectives and key results for the quarter
  • Fill in each section of the framework — AI will suggest content based on your connected signals and past decisions
  • Review AI suggestions and edit to match your team's language
  • Link the canvas to related PRDs, decisions, or roadmap items
  • Click Share to export as PDF or share a live link with stakeholders
  • Example

North Star Canvas for a B2B SaaS product:

North Star Metric: Weekly active workspaces (workspaces with at least 3 active users in a week)

Why this metric: It captures both adoption (multiple users) and retention (weekly activity) in a single number.

    Leading indicators:

  • Time to first PRD generated (target: < 10 minutes)
  • Number of integrations connected per workspace (target: ≥ 2)
  • Invite rate (target: 40% of new workspaces invite a teammate in week 1)
  • Work that moves the metric:

  • Onboarding redesign → improves time to first PRD
  • Integration setup simplification → improves integrations connected
  • Team collaboration features → improves invite rate
